Welcome to Oscar Points live coverage of the 2025 Golden Globes. The first important night on the road to the Academy Awards. In true Globes fashion, the 81-year-old event promises flash and pizzaz but possibly some major upsets. Conclave is one to watch his the drama category despite Critics groups moving heavily towards The Brutalist. Anora is the favorite in several categories, including Musical and comedy picture, and Mikey Madison could be walking away with a Globe.
On top of the frontrunners, watch for Angelina Jolie to kick off her phase two Oscar campaign if she wins for Maria. Timothee Chalamet has a chance to upset in Actor with A Complete Unknown. Hugh Grant, out of nowhere, in a non-awards friendly movie, could potentially steal a win for Heretic in comedy or musical.
And finally, Wicked has an opportunity to do the impossible: win best cinematic and box office achievement! Nikki Glazer bravely plays host after Joi Koi had a complete meltdown on stage last season. Good luck Nikki…
(blurbs happened at time of award win)
Supporting Actress: Zoe Saldana, Emilia Perez (+5)
First Zoe Saldana win on the season for Emilia Perez, potentially starting her Oscar campaign. Time will tell. As for Oscar Points, Zoe Saldana’s win breaks the tie with Margaret Qualley and Ariana Grande and pushes to the top.
| Zoe Saldana, Emilia Perez | 13 (+5) |
| Margarett Qualley, The Substance | 8 |
| Ariana Grande, Wicked | 8 |

Supporting Actor: Kieran Culkin, A Real Pain (+5)
Kieran Culkin wins the Globe in Supporting Actor and adds to his already illustrious resume at the Golden Globes winning his second. Culkin entered the night with the highest point differential of +26 and the win here puts him in Da’vine Joy Randolph in The Holdovers territory. Critics and industry sweeper potential. The next closest is Clarence Maclin for Sing Sing at seven points. It appears over…
Best Screenplay: Peter Straughan, Conclave (+5)
Conclave opens its Oscar run with a win in Screenplay at the Golden Globes. Taking an award like Screenplay signifies strength over Anora and The Brutalist. However, with the separated screenplay distinctions throughout the season, Conclave is not quite the frontrunner in Oscar Points. When looking at the Oscar race, Cocnlave just got a massive boost. Anora will need to win at Critics Choice.
Film Non-English: Emilia Perez (+5, 10 total points)
Emilia Perez padding its win total with number two. The Golden Globe nomination record-breaker is starting to build its resume. Two wins. More possibly on the horizon considering how much this organization liked the movie overall. The Seed of the Sacred Fig is officially dead on arrival.
Film Musical or Comedy Actress: Demi Moore, The Substance (+5)
Demi Moore with a massive upset over Mikey Madison in Musical or Comedy Actress. The Oscar Points frontrunner takes a huge blow allowing for Demi Moore to go up on stage and give a speech. Moore brought the crowd to their feet and now Mikey Madison is in huge trouble. Even more hilarious, The Substance is a non-awards baity body horror film.
Film Musical or Comedy Actor: Sebastian Stan, A Different Man (+5)
Whoa! Sebastian Stan wins for A Different Man, one of the most unorthodox picks in recent memory for this category. A win for prosthetics and a win for nuanced acting that develops an identity, or lack thereof, over time. It was an easier category but still a nice win for the veteran actor, and could possibly (not likely) help him get into Oscar.

Film Animation: Flow (+5)
What a huge win for Flow! Right as The Wild Robot surge happens, Flow comes through and wins a Golden Globe. It now takes a larger lead over its contemporaries and gives itself a chance to move forward. Critics Choice feels like The Wild Robot but maybe BAFTA and Oscar for Flow?
| Flow | 28 (+5) |
| The Wild Robot | 19 |
Film Director: Brady Corbet, The Brutalist (+5)
The wunderkind director is pictured below holding his Golden Globe. First win of possibly a season sweep at the director category. The film with the “directorly” quality will win at DGA, the Oscars. That seems to be the path for The Brutalist towards Oscar immortality.

Film Score: Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Challengers (+5)
The Challengers score misses at BAFTA longlist but wins at the Golden Globes. It’s a weird season for that score as it feels like it should be an Oscar frontrunner but will maybe miss out on a nomination. As for its Oscar Points chances, it takes a massive lead in the race now that it has an industry win over The Brutalist
Film Song: “El Mal” from Emilia Perez
Film Cinematic and Box Office Achievement: Wicked
Film Drama Actress: Fernando Torres, I’m Still Here (+5)
In a night of upsets, Fernando Torres makes a case for the biggest one after missing out on the BAFTA longlist. She beats Angelina Jolie and Maria to claim the victory and boost herself in the Oscar Points race. It’s her first win of the season catapulting her into a race with Demi Moore, Mikey Madison, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Huge international presence at the Globes tonight.
Film Drama Actor: Adrian Brody, The Brutalist (+5, 10 total)
The one-time Oscar winner is eyeing his second win and starting with the Golden Globes puts him on the right track. He wins over Ralph Fiennes in Conclave and Timothee Chalamet in A Complete Unknown. He’ll retake the Oscar Points lead from Colman Domingo in Sing Sing, as the industry begins to chime in.
Film Drama: The Brutalist (+6, 16 total)
With Brady Corbet winning Director and Adrian Brody winning Best Actor, The Brutalist had the best night of any film. Its stock as a true Best Picture rose by a significant margin, as now it looks like it has a perfect trifecta: director, actor, and picture. Critics Choice feels like Anora but I’m not convinced. SAG feels like the clarity portion of the awards schedule. Can The Brutalist hold as the 4-hour epic?
| Anora | 28 |
| The Brutalist | 24 (+6) |
| The Substance | 11 |
| Wicked | 10 |
Film Musical or Comedy: Emilia Perez (+6, 16 total)
After Emilia Perez took Song, it felt like a foregone conclusion that it was a Best Picture winner. The Globes nominated it in so many categories and showcased general passion for the film and its cast. It ends the night tying The Brutalist for most points on the evening. Can Emilia Perez make a roaring comeback in Oscar Points even if Critics groups pass on it?
